Local bakers showcase their skills at Cake International in Birmingham

8 November, 2013

In the latest instalment of Cake International’s three-city tour of the UK, this weekend the legendary cake show heads to Birmingham’s NEC centre, much to the delight of local bakers.

The three-day event will feature an impressive array of attractions, including demonstrations, book signings and workshops with cake decoration experts Renshaw. Star guests Mary Berry and Mich Turner will even be making an appearance to share their baking expertise with the professional bakers and amateur cake enthusiasts at the show.

As one of the key suppliers to the North West food industry though, perhaps the most exciting part of the weekend for BAKO will be discovering which bakers take home prizes in the National Cupcake Championships. The BAKO team would like to wish all the finalists good luck in the contest, including Emma King of Funky Food Café in Southport who created her signature Best British Hero cupcake using BAKO ingredients.

We’ll be sharing Twitter highlights from the show next week, but for now here’s how bakers in the region have been preparing for this prestigious industry event:

The region’s bakers get ghostly for Halloween

24 October, 2013

Over the past few years, Halloween has become a bigger and bigger event for the baking world, with talented cake-makers competing to come up with the most imaginatively gruesome cake designs they can.

At BAKO North Western, we’ve been thoroughly blown away by the selection of haunting treats on offer this year, and we even shared a few Halloween recipes of our own in our latest seasonal workshop with local bakers.

Take a look at some of the Twitter community’s most spectacular edible nightmares below and don’t forget to let us know if you need any last minute Halloween cake supplies for your own ghoulish creations.

Chocolate week celebrations in the North

16 October, 2013

National Craft Bakers’ Week may have drawn to a close, but there’s no time for the North West’s bakers and pastry chefs to hang up their aprons just yet.

With the world’s largest chocolate show coming to the UK for the first time this weekend, food businesses across the country are celebrating Chocolate Week; seven days dedicated to all things chocolatey.

As a major supplier to the North West’s catering industry, we always have one eye on Twitter to discover what local bakers and chocolatiers have been creating, and we certainly haven’t been disappointed by what we’ve spotted this week. Here are some of our favourite rich chocolate creations from the region.
