A world of chocolate choice: celebrating our latest competition with Callebaut

This July, BAKO NW has teamed up with expert chocolatiers Callebaut to bring our Twitter followers an exciting competition.

We’re giving four of our fans the opportunity to win a luxury hamper of Callebaut chocolates for use in their own bakes.

To enter, followers simply need to tweet a picture of one of their chocolate creations using the hashtag #BakoChocolate.

We’ll be putting our top six favourites up to a vote and letting our blog readers decide their favourite bakes. As well as claiming the amazing chocolate prize, the most popular bake will also be invited to have their winning recipe created into an infographic for their own promotion.

Wimbledon’s flavour champions

Wimbledon’s culinary traditions are almost as famous as the tournament itself, so how can your baking take inspiration from this iconic tennis tournament?

As July rolls around, it’s once again time for tennis fever to grip the nation, with proud fans up and down the country ready to shout ‘Come on Andy’ at their televisions. More importantly for bakers though, this is a chance to take advantage of the quintessentially British flavour combinations that Wimbledon fans have been enjoying for decades.

A slice of victory

What could be better than Wimbledon’s signature dish of fresh, juicy strawberries and smooth cream? How about sandwiching the two between light, airy sheets of buttery puff pastry to create a summer slice worthy of a champion?


Anyone for Pimms?

Catering company Asparagus Green have had the ingenious idea of recreating the refreshing taste of Pimms in cake form. Sweet candied orange and strawberry cubes contrast against a hint of cooling cucumber and a Pimms-enriched sponge, resulting in an unforgettable flavour sensation.

A twist on a classic Sometimes you can’t beat a classic. Jam tarts are incredibly quick and easy to bake and make a great take-away treat for customers on-the-go. For a special Wimbledon tip, try piping curved lines on top of your zesty lemon tarts to pay tribute to the tournament’s vibrant yellow tennis balls. 2 Time to celebrate You shouldn’t have to be the one lifting the trophy for a taste of the high life during Wimbledon season. The Black Swan pub in Cheshire has already popped open the bubbly to add a fizzy hint of sophistication to this dainty dessert trio.


Strawberry & cream dream

We couldn’t resist adding another strawberries and cream recipe to this list: it is Wimbledon after all! Baltic Bakehouse in Liverpool have piped a generous helping of cream into their crisp, golden doughnuts, finished off with a single fresh strawberry.
