With only a few more weeks until we begin to head into cherry season, we thought we’d offer up some charming cherry inspiration to help you to include this deliciously sweet fruit on your menu.
Add a special starter to your menu by creating a cherry compote served with goat’s cheese. Simply cook your pitted cherries with light brown sugar, balsamic vinegar and some thyme to really accentuate their tart flavour before serving on a warm round of goat’s cheese.
Trifle has always been a firm favourite on many a menu as has Black Forest Gateau, but why not bring these retro style desserts together by whipping up a Black Forest inspired trifle. With a kirsch soaked layer of cherries this is definitely one to be enjoyed by your grown up customers. There couldn’t be a better flavour pairing than sweet cherries and indulgent dark chocolate. Served in individual portions, these could be perfect added to a trio of desserts or included in an afternoon tea selection.
At BAKO_NW we think cherries and almonds are the perfect combo. What more could you ask for than a mouthful of sweetness with a little crunch. Try adding cherries and almonds into your traditional chocolate chip cookie mix to really tempt your customers.
Or why not try disguising some dried cherries into a super sweet chocolate bark or rocky road, for some extra chewy goodness that will keep them coming back for more.
A simple and traditional favourite the scone, in our opinion can only get better with the addition of cherries. If adding cherries to the mix, the addition of ground nutmeg and ginger will really bring the flavour to life. Don’t worry if your customers prefer sultanas and raisins, there’s no reason why you can’t tempt them with your own homemade cherry jam to slather in the centre on top of a dollop of clotted cream instead.
A healthy alternative
As healthy eating is becoming ever more popular, why not add a healthier alternative to your menu by adding some crunchy-sweet nut snacks to your counter? Take dried cherries and a selection of mixed and chopped nuts, sprinkle with oats, honey and Chinese five spice and bake until deliciously sweet and crunchy. These could also prove popular as an addition to your breakfast menu spooned on top of hot porridge or pancakes.
If you add cherries to your bakes in any interesting ways, we’d love to hear all about them on our Twitter!
