Calling all bakers and cafes to take part and join in the fun, to make 2015 the best year yet!
Over the weekend, the Welsh Cheese and Cider Festival will be making its return to the Gower to celebrate a wide selection of locally produced, award winning cheeses, ciders and perry’s. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample some of the very best cheese available alongside some deliciously fruity cider.
To honour this, we thought we’d look into a range of cheese inspired bakes to tempt your customers with.
Cheese and jalapeno scones
Cheese scones are a bakery classic and always prove popular with the customers. These fluffy savoury treats make a welcome addition to any cheeseboard or afternoon tea. Revamp this classic, by adding jalapenos for some additional spice and texture. Chunks of oozing Red Leicester pair perfectly with the smoky heat of jalapenos in these scones.
Why not try serving alongside chilli con carne as an alternative to nachos?
Cheese, bacon and leek muffins
Muffins may usually appear on your cake counter as a sweet treat but they make the perfect savoury snack too. Tender buttery leeks and crispy bacon add a touch of indulgence and texture to a mature cheddar infused mix. Why not add a teaspoon of wholegrain mustard for an even bigger punch of flavour? Not only do these muffins make for a great on-the-go snack, they’re also ideal for packaging up as part of a picnic.
Could there be a more classic sandwich filling than cheese? Turn the staple sandwich into an exciting treat for customers by creating a savoury twist on the cinnamon bun. Simply replace the sticky cinnamon filling with a generous spreading of stilton and finely chopped walnuts for added crunch. A sprinkle of thyme adds a welcoming aroma that your customers will find hard to resist, these stunning cheese swirls will be a great addition to your menu served hot or cold.
If you’re looking to add a touch of elegance to your breakfast menu, ricotta pancakes could be the way to do it. Ricotta adds an almost custard like creamy texture to the pancake centre, making an indulgent yet light addition to any menu. Serve these pancakes with sweet or savoury toppings, from fresh fruit to salty bacon, making it an ideal treat that can be altered to suit all your customers’ taste buds.
Cauliflower cheese soup
Cheese can transform any dish into comfort food and cauliflower cheese is certainly testament to that. However, customers may be looking for a lighter dish that still embodies those nostalgic flavours. So why not dish up cauliflower cheese soup? Simply serve with fluffy buttered bread rolls to create a comforting treat that’s sure to warm up your customers.
Cheeseboards and fondue
If you’re catering for larger groups, gooey cheese fondue and traditional cheeseboard’s shouldn’t be forgotten. Accompanied by a delicious range of chutneys, crackers, grapes and cider, customers won’t be able to resist tucking into a varied selection.
Will you be making the journey from the North West to Wales this weekend for The Welsh Cheese and Cider Festival? Or will you be celebrating the delicious flavour combinations by incorporating them into your bakes? Either way, we’d love to hear about what you get up to on our Twitter.
